Yesterday I had the best idea. Whenever you ask Colin what he wants for dinner he either says, pizza or cake. So I decided that after our meal we would have homemade cake. I found two great recipes and got the ingredients. At least thats what I thought. In reality I was missing some of the butter I would need. So I subbed in some smart balance. In my defense, I was only a little low on that part. Long story short, the recipe was doomed from the beginning. I used the wrong size pan and it went down hill from there. Part of the dessert was OK, so we served that. It was was actually pretty good. However when Colin got to the table, very excited for cake I might add, he was less than impressed. He sat down, looked at the cherry cake and said, "Not cake." Then he got down and walked away.
He was sort of annoyed with me. He was expecting cake and got an ugly cherry dessert. Today though, I made a comeback. I went to Whole Foods and got him the prettiest little Valentine cupcakes you ever did see. He was over the moon. I ate the cherry dessert and I have to say, as ugly as it is, that stuff is pretty good. I may just have more.
Satisfied customer. Also, since he boycotted what I made for dinner, we gave him bread and hummus. He loves that stuff. Then we gave him some pizza. First he ate the bread, then he put hummus on the pizza and ate that. I guess it all goes to the same place.
And now I'm board. Someone hurry up and clean this mess I've created . . . NOW!
Jasper has been insisting on feeding himself for awhile now. I've given into the fact that I'll be cleaning up piles of food for the next year or so. It's OK, Colin was the same way and I barely clean up after him these days.
Today Jasper took over the food that Colin refused to eat. He poked at it, dug in with his hand, while holding a fork in the other and shoved food into his mouth. Then, he dumped it over his face. This was the process for two bowls. Then he did the above to a cupcake. Like I said, I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll be cleaning up this type of mess for the next year or two.
When I got home from work today Colin was very talkative. He said hello and told me to take my coat off. He also told me to hang it up. Then he told me to hang my purse. When I sat down to relax, he slid in behind me. Then he made me put Jasper down by saying, "Move please" as he shoved Jasper off my lap. Basically he was the little general we've all grown to love. I love how much he is saying and clearly, the kids is loving this whole talking thing. In addition, he has been very vocal about telling us he has, "big poop." It's not as scary as it seems, I think its just his way of saying he has to go. I'm just glad he's telling us.
Wowwie kazowie, what a week. I've been to work with a cough, then worked from home with a cough, then gone back with a cough and I'm still coughing. I think its getting better but I'm pretty tired and ready for the weekend. Work is in full swing which is good, but I won't lie, I'm ready for the weekend to begin.
Hope you had a good week and hope you can stay warm. It's not February cold, but the chill is coming.
Mia, Ryan, Colin and Jasper
I love everything about this post, especially "big poop."
